Career Advancements For School Counselors?

I am thinking about making a career change to a school counselor. However, I am wondering what sort of career advancements there are for a school counselor. If I decide that I would like to work at a college/university after working at a high school, will I be able to do that? What sort of additional education or training is needed for that change?

You usually need a masters in counseling, and a credential also if you’re working in public schools. You can become Head of Guidance or something like that at a public school, but not much higher.
As far as moving to a college- university setting, you won’t have any direct experience, but some indirect experience. You can be an academic counselor on the college level, or try to work in an admissions office– but dealing with HS students won’t directly relate.

  • Thanks but i dont think you always have to have a masters degree DO U.
