With A College Degree, Will Taking An Administrative Assistant Position Be Damaging To My Career?

At 22, I have graduated and am about to take on a position as an administrative assistant with a company with great room for advancement. In my current organization, I’ve noticed that all the people with this title are those without degrees. However, entry-level (ish) opportunities are hard to come by in the field of marketing/PR (my field) and I feel like an administrative role is all I’m going to get for right now until I build more experience. If I spent a year or two doing this, would this look bad to potential employers down the road?

How To Be More Personable?

I don’t know how I got to be such a grump, but I’m just not very friendly. My professors have mentioned that I am not very personable and that that will hinder my career advancement. I am not sure how to change. I don’t have enough time for toastmasters or social groups. I can’t go back to school for a nonsocial career like engineering or computer science because of financial reasons. I try to be friendly, but I am just naturally very direct and confrontational.

Your Opinions – Is It Better To Be Self Employed, Work In A Small, Med. Or Large Org?

I have been a small business owner and have experience working as an employee for a small and medium organisation. I want to leave my current job and am assessing my options. I work in consultancy and what is important to me is, career advancement, challenge, and working autonomously in an organisation that is flexible. ie I like the idea of being able to work from home, have flex time etc.
Your opinions on the pros and cons of working in either a small, medium or large organisation would be appreciated. Also can you recommend any organisations to check out?
