As long as the college (online or campus based) is regionally accredited, any degree you earn should be accepted by any potential employers or other academic institutions.
My best recommendation would be to contact a number of colleges to find the best fit for you and your needs (tuition, schedule, career opportunities, etc.). Too often people enroll in the first school they find rather than taking the time to find the best school for them. Taking that time now could save you a lot of time, money and frustration if you choose the wrong school.
This site has some good info on regionally accredited online degrees and some colleges that offer them to help expand your search:http://www.ecollegefinder.org
I think you can enter your info on there for any colleges you are interested in and they will send you more info for free. Good Luck!

    Hi There -
I work at American Public University (www.apu.apus.edu), which offers accredited online degrees in education. There are some very good online universities that offer certification degrees in elementary education (such as APU, but there are others too). First check to see if the certification program you are interested in is approved by a state department of education and apply for initial certification in that state. Most states have a teacher reciprocity agreement whereby another state will accept the certification and allow the student to receive certification in the preferred state. In the case of American Public University, you would receive certification in West Virginia and then apply for certification in your home state via reciprocity. In short, make sure that the school you are considering is regionally accredited and that the elementary certification program is approved by the state department of education before you apply.

  • it is true for some states.
What you need to do is go to *your* states education dept website and see which approved programs exist. Every state keeps a list online.
The problem is student teaching. You cannot do this online. If an online program suggests this – run fast.
