PostHeaderIcon How Do I Know If An Online College Has Proper Accreditation?

I was looking at going to an online college that was accredited through the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology (ACCSCT), but when I called a traditional university, I was told the credits wouldn’t transfer, because it wasn’t proper accreditation. How can I be sure that an online college has accreditation that will allow me to get a better job and continue my higher education elsewhere if I decide to? Is ACCSCT legitimate, if so, are there places where it will transfer?
Thanks, this is all very confusing. :)

There are different levels of accreditation. Call the traditional university back, and ask them specifically what kind of accreditation they are looking for.
The ACCSCT accreditation is for technical/career schools which are not considered to have the same level of academic rigor as traditional residential universities.
In the meantime here’s an interesting web site:http://www.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/i…

ACCSCT is legitimate, but the accreditation is considered “bush league’. The gold standard for accreditation of school is Regional Accreditation. In addition, some professional programs within the school will have “programmatic” accreditation.
Most regionally accredited colleges/universities will not accept credits from non-regionally accredited schools, but there are exceptions and no school is obligated to accept credits from any other school.
