Yes, you can join. But, there’s a lot of jobs that require good eyesight, like flying. If you’re looking into joining the military, talk with a recruiter about what jobs are restricted because of poor eyesight, particularly near sightedness.

In the Navy, if you even want to just work on aircraft, you MUST have corrected vision at the time of your physical exam. Be safe & wear some glasses for the exam, so you don’t limit your options. They will issue glasses to you if you need them.

I’m near sighted as well, (before the color test which I despise with every ounce of my being) I could have gotten any MOS I wanted that didn’t have anything to do with me flying an aircraft. They’ll just give you birth control glasses LOL

As long as your vision is correctable to 20/20 with lenses you are fine.
I wear glasses and I think my eyes are pretty bad. I am near sighted. I did however fail the depth perception test. That will affect your career choice. Luckily I still got the job I wanted.

You might need a waiver, a reminder, usually military only gave out waiver, right now the receuit demand is very high due to recession, they would more likely getting a physical fit recruit than the one that has problem.

Yeah, you can still join the military. I think, though, that if you’re wanting to be a flier of any kind, you have to have perfect vision. If that’s what you want to do, you can always get LASIK.

  • Yes you can join. They let me in. At MEP they asked how long I’d been without my seeing eye dog. But I still got a very good job.

  • Truth is

You could be a sniper. The scope lens will correct your sight.
