Because to hire an engineer costs at least $3,500 to company, according to my boss (in 2001, when HNTB started offering employees referral bonus). I worked for HNTB in NYC office for 7 years. I got lot of trainings, my boss always encouraged me for my professional development, also promoted me two times. I really got tremendous opportunities with HNTB. So HNTB is one of the best companies, but there are lot of other companies. Try to find out top engineering companies in ENR. Also trade magazines (free) like Civil Engineer and Structural Engineer list best companies to work for (based on survey results). For the locations out side USA you can find out from ENR also, they list best engineering companies in the world also. Try these sources, I am sure you will find one of the best companies at the location you want to live. Good Luck.
