Is It Easy To Find A Finance Job In London?

With the financial crisis going on, is there any work for prospect finance graduates?

Firms are cutting back on their graduate intakes but there are still jobs to be had out there. Employers got burned last time as they were getting rid of trainees and then when things picked up, guess what, there were no bright young things with a few years experience! Those who had managed to keep their jobs were then able to command very high salaries for poor quality work because people of their level were so rare. Firms won’t be making that mistake again.
Despite the legislation on age discrimination, in reality nobody’s going to give a trainee position to a 35-year-old manager who’s just been made redundant. You are still only competing with other graduates – but there are fewer jobs to go around. So an important question is, how strong are you as a candidate? The best ones will still be able to get in there. The borderline ones will not – they might have been taken on in boom time to make up the numbers, but not any more.
Work harder for your exams than you hoped you’d need to, get the best degree you possibly can (it’s not a good time to be a 2:2, or a 2.1 from a less-than-stellar Uni or subject), and give a thought to relevant work experience and all the usual things to make your CV as strong as you can.
I’d recommend a sideways step into accountancy. Get yourself onto a three-year training contract, and by the time you’ve finished that you’ll be an ACA and the market (which is always eager for newly-qualifieds whatever the weather) will have picked up a bit.

I doubt it. You can try, but until the economy picks up, your prospects are limited.
I just finished an internship at Bloomberg, and they are hiring like mad in their New York and London offices. Might consider checking that out.

Yes. (There are plenty of restaurants in London)
