It depends on who’s doing the hiring. I look for ability, not degrees or certifications. I’ve never had a piece of paper write a single line of code, but I’ve has many programmers with no formal education write great code. (Some people don’t understand the difference between sitting in school for 4 years and learning. they figure that if they learned by sitting in school, everyone who sat in school learned, and no one can learn without sitting in school. All this proves is that they didn’t learn as much as they think they did.)
