I appreciate your concern for your family, but this is your decision. Once you're 18 and can join without their say-so, you can join the branch of service you choose to join. You simply say, "Mom, Dad, I love you, and I'm doing the thing I truly want to do with my life. I need your support, even if you think this isn't a good idea."
That's a hard transition for parents to make, by the way... With a little nudge from you, they'll get it...

Airborne isn't an individual specialty like "infantry", "armor", or "military police". It's an additional school to certify you to be deployable by parachute.
Military Police isn't all it's cracked up to be. I did that for three years, spent a lot of time as a gate guard, or doing convoy escorts. Some MP's are more or less like regular civilian patrol cops, for others, it's pretty boring duty.

Volunteering for the US military is one of the least selfish things a man can do. Those that are unwilling to take the risks that we take can never understand why we would to protect them. Congratulations, you are among the natural sheepdogs that protect the sheep from the wolf (http://www.killology.com).
I'd recommend you go 11B1V and you'll be set to go SF later.
99+% of all soldiers return alive. Don't let the media and those who believe them scare you.
To see the truth of what's going on (without politics) from a veteran's viewpoint, read my blog:http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-DfkctJU7d…

It is your decision. My nephew is 18 and just went into basic training. I live a couple miles from ft. bragg, so I have alot of friends and family in the military. My best friends husband was in the navy and he was gone for months even when there was no war going on. The death toll is not really that high. Compared to most wars the U.S. has been involved in. Everyone gets deployed eventually and most units go out more than once or even twice etc. It's not an easy job for you or family, but it's a personal dedication and strong feelings are always involved.

If they can not support your decision to go into the Army. Then that is their problem. It is your decision to make, you can already see how miserable you will be doing something because someone else has decided. Go with your heart,it may be difficult for your family in the beginning, but your dad will be even more proud of you for doing what you felt was right in the end.

They should be supportive of any career decision that you make that has a positive effect on your life whether it be the army or not. You could have decided to be a career criminal or something of that nature. I just got done doing 21 years in the army and my family was supportive every minute of it.

You can die in a car crash. You can die from anything, anywhere, at any time. When your number is up, the BIG Guy upstairs doesn't care if you are a Soldier in battle or a stock broker crossing the street. You are going to die. Follow your heart. They will love and respect you either way (even if they are libs).
BTW: Boats suck. The work on a boat is hard work. Go Air Force or Marines.
Remember: ALWAYS check your 6

first, the Navy has ships, not boats, second no parent wants their son or daughter to join the military during these times, but you will do what is right for you and your parents will eventually come around....good luck

Well, you should be proud of yourself wanting to serve your country. The choice as to what branch of the service you go into if its the army then " go army. "
The fact that people tell you, you will die, well I understand where they are coming from, but then you could die to-marrow, what ever the good Lord has planned for you will be in his hands. Just remember once your training in over in what ever branch of the service you go into, there is a saying we use in the PD. "STAY ALERT <STAY ALIVE"
Good luck and stay safe.
