PostHeaderIcon Need Help About Online College And Options For Military Wife Please!?

At 17 for personal reasons I had to drop out of High school, a few years later I became interested in the military and was turned down for lack of education. I went back to school and got my GED, a few months later of working with the future soldiers of america program I was in shape and ready to go…But then I fell in-love, got married and accidentally pregnant. :) Which is not a bad thing I just had to put all my work on the back burner for a while. Here I am though two years later interested in the military again only to find that Army has closed off allowing GEDs to enter because they are full on soldiers at the moment. I need to turn my GED into a High school diploma with 15 college credits. I cannot use my husbands GI bill until he has been in the Coast Guard for 6 years (hes only in 4 as of now). So I am at a loss of where to go for cheap online classes since this is coming out of our own pocket. Are there any other military loans or grants im eligible for? What is a good cheap online college to get credits from so that I can get into the Army? Please any help is greatly appreciated!

Each school has its own rules about it. You can compare their rules and students feedback here – universities.atwebpages.com

  • try pierce college, i used them while i was deployed, because it is all at your own pace, but has to be complete before end of the semester
i didn’t think the army would ever be full of soldiers. good luck

register for online classes with a community college in your area. The one in my area has classes for around 58 dollars a credit and financial aid if in county often times its free for in county residents.

The problem may solve itself. It’s possible that as we come into a new year with new recruitment goals they may relax the policy. Also recruiters can def. waive the requirement. I would just try asking as many recruiters as possible if they would waive the requirement for you. Eventually you will find a recruiter that hasn’t met their goal yet and needs to put people in.
On a side note.. thats also how enlistment bonuses work. Had i know before i joined i would have pushed hard for the 20k in one lump sum.. which they do, but most people dont know that.

  • Check out military onesource and the Career Advancement Accounts (CAA). This was a trial program that has been expanded to all active duty spouses. Basically it is $6000 to be put toward advancing or starting your career. You will have paperwork and stuff to fill out, but it is a great program. I believe you need to submit your plan for using the money and it has to be approved before you can start using it.
Good luck! You should be very proud of yourself!
ETA: I’m sorry about that… didn’t realize they could run out of funding! Don’t give up, keep trying!

First let me say kudos for not being ANOTHER person who lives their entire life with “what if,” even given the extreme circumstance you have. You’re still taking control, and you’re not bitter about marriage or your child. That’s awesome.
Okay, I know that wasn’t helpful but I had to say something. I think the best thing you can do is visit the base’s education office- those people live and breath college so they’ll know every obscure online college under the sun. More importantly, they’ll be able to steer you clear of the myriad of scams out there to pay $x for a “Certificate,” that has zippo to do with a college degree. Be very wary of that. Best of luck!
