You just check it. Apple will usually contact your college to make sure you are a student or they may ask you for a copy of your I.D. When I bought my first Mac, they phoned my principal to make sure I was a teacher at the school. After that, they didn't bother and just trusted me. I now have an iMac and a MacBook.
