What classes can I take to further myself? i am very serious about starting an online college soon because i stay at home with my son and am 9 weeks pregnant and really want to get something under my belt being 26 and no prior education except high school of course, i need to do something! At 22, I have graduated and am about to take on a position as an administrative assistant with a company with great room for advancement. In my current organization, I’ve noticed that all the people with this title are those without degrees. However, entry-level (ish) opportunities are hard to come by in the field of marketing/PR (my field) and I feel like an administrative role is all I’m going to get for right now until I build more experience. If I spent a year or two doing this, would this look bad to potential employers down the road? I was hired at Ameriprise Financial as a “client services assistant”, which essentially means filling out and filing numerous types of forms and applications, maintaining and updating client databases and information, etc. For someone who is looking to enter the financial field upon graduation, whether into the financial advising field itself or something related, would this be a decent job to get my foot in the door, so to speak? I am looking into Penn Foster, US Career Institute, SJVC Online, and Allied Health Institute. Is this a good field? What are the job prospects? Are there jobs in Minn and elsewhere? How much could I make? Is there chance for advancement? Ho many years to study? My daughter worked as a vet assistant w no experience. She found out her life long dream was not her vocation. A lot of vets will train you since it is not for everyone and since you already have experience you should have no problems if they have an opening.
