Becoming an insurance adjuster is probably not on most third grader’s list of whom they want to be when they grow up. It certainly wasn’t on mine. But when reality sets in, as it has a habit of doing, and you find that age 28 you still haven’t fulfilled your third-grade destiny as zookeeper or astronaut, its time to look at some alternative career options. As I discovered, through good fortune, insurance claims adjusting happens to be a seldom considered gem of a career move. Working as a claims adjuster, specifically an independent insurance adjuster, has some extremely attractive features that may surprise you. Here are just three:

Benefit 1: Outstanding income potential

If you were told you could make $1,500 a day working as an independent claims adjuster you might reasonably assume that the person who told you this was unwell or trying to sell you something. Those numbers, when stretched over a period of several months, approach salaries of accomplished doctors, attorneys, or business execs. Unbelievable? I would think so. But the reality is this – every year independent claims adjusters make tens of thousands of dollars in very short periods of time working catastrophic insurance claims. After Hurricanes Katrina, Wilma, and Rita hit in 2005, thousands of independent adjusters working the affected regions averaged $300 to $400 per claim they closed. A catastrophic adjuster with basic proficiency should close 2-3 claims per day. That equates to $800 to $1200 daily. An outstanding adjuster can close in excess of 5 claims per day. Career cat adjusters can earn well in excess of $100,000 yearly. Further, many adjusters will make all of that money in only three to six months out of the year. The rest of the time can be spent however they wish.

Be it hurricane, tornado, hail, or earthquake – when the seasons bring inclemency, independent adjusters arrive to help pick up the pieces. They are compensated extremely well for their efforts.

Benefit 2: Relative ease of adjuster certification

Most careers with earnings potential comparable to independent insurance adjusting require 4 to 8 years of college and post graduate study. You can become a certified claims adjuster in 3 days. Online and classroom pre-licensing courses, which are available especially in Texas and Florida, can help you obtain your required certification in less than a week. These courses can be intense, but just about any individual who wants to pass can do so.

Obtaining certification obviously doesn’t mean automatic employment or even that you are actually qualified to do the job. Further training is recommended to supplement deficiencies in your professional profile. A sound claims adjuster must posses strong people skills, above average computer proficiency, and some construction and insurance policy related knowledge. That said, many hiring companies, especially in catastrophic scenarios, will greatly assist their adjusters in obtaining the proper job training.

Becoming a doctor takes 8 to 12 years out of high school. You can become a licensed, trained, and mobile claims adjuster ready to begin your career in under a month.

Benefit 3: Be your own boss

Working as an independent adjuster means just that – working independently. Claims adjusting is not a 9 to 5 office job where you punch a time card. You are giving a set of claims, usually electronically, and are expected to author the claims handling procedure yourself from start to finish. This means your time, space, and resources are your own. You determine just how good you are – not your boss. You determine how long of a day you will work – not your boss. And you decide ultimately how much money you will make. This is a liberating and empowering feeling.

There is a mistaken notion that any career associated with insurance is inherently dry and uninteresting and tangled in convoluted policies and unsavory business tactics. Claims adjusting proves this false. Imagine the prospect of navigating through disaster-stricken neighborhoods in an effort to help people get their lives and homes back together. Imagine the sincere gratitude and respect with which most claimants greet you as you take on their claim. And when you consider that you are not really the strong arm of Big Insurance but the firm hand picking up those who are down, its evident that claims adjusting isn’t your typical insurance gig.

The bottom line is that you can make a fantastic living helping people put their lives back together and without your boss looking over your shoulder.

You may not have had a career as an insurance adjuster on your list of who you wanted to be when you grew up, but you probably did have something that was adventurous and helped people. It may come as a surprise but insurance claims adjusting offers just that, and the added opportunity to make an outstanding income while doing so!

Never Ever Become a Life Insurance Agent

But did you know that the career life agency is setting you up for failure. I will even bet you that you can’t make it four years even if you have some money you can get your hands on. How about I bet you that you only have a 10% chance of survival? Better yet, change that chance of success to 6%, I’m betting that 94 out of 100 newly recruited agents will not see their 4th insurance anniversary.

Don’t call me Dr Doom; I’ve done over 25 years of homework and intense analysis to be right. Now ask the insurance agent and the career insurance agency who is at fault for the failure. The agency will always blame it on the agent; the agent will blame the career insurance agency. Whose fault is it? 50% percent of the time it is the agency and the new insurance agent’s fault combined. The agent should not have applied for the position, and the recruiter should not have hired him. These new recruits are “order takers”, they can complete a sales application form, but this is a far distance from selling an recruiting skills.

The rest of the time, I would put the blame almost entirely on the career agency system. Good thing I’m no longer an insurance agent. Career agencies would like to gag me and hang me from the nearest tree for bringing to light the truth.

What really irks me? Almost all the career life insurance agencies use a similar plan with recruiting agents and handling them during their rookie years. How can any agent succeed with the statistics stacked so high against him, and the agency unwilling to take blame or make changes?

Let’s look first at the hiring system. Career agencies hire new agents two ways. The first is a good size ad in the local Sunday newspaper promising lots of income and plenty of benefits. The other is a recruiter hired by the career agency to attend job fairs and similar events to talk to college seniors. Chances are the college insurance recruiter may have never sold an insurance policy. With the agency running the classified ad, the sales manager is good at selling, but does not have a successful recruiting track record,

It does not matter much which way hooked you into responding, your chances are terrible. Does it really hurt the insurance company if you fail? You can get my opinion and analysis in an upcoming report “Agents stock the insurance company freezer”.

Do Not Answer that Life Insurance Agent Wanted Ad. Did you ever drive your car in heavy traffic blindfolded? 1,500,000 agents are doing it daily, mainly the 700,000 newer ones. The agent by themselves keep going thru non-existent guardrails, and eliminating their careers. Would they have entered this business if they knew they would be driving while blind?

I will even bet you can not survive four years as an insurance agent That is even if you have some rainy day money you can get your hands on. How about I bet you that you only have a 10% chance of survival? To be more exact, make that chance of succeeding at six percent. That what the statistics reveal about the total of newly recruited agents able to celebrate their fourth anniversary party.

Did you know that you career agency is purposely setting you up for failure? You don’t realize it, and the agency would tell you that you were crazy. For over a hundred years of career agent history this plan has been kept undercover.

Don’t call me Dr Doom

I’ve done over 25 years of homework and intense analysis to be right. Try asking the insurance agent manger of the career insurance agency who recruited you who’s to became for your lack of progress is at fault for the failure.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

Whose fault is it? In almost 50% of the occurrences, the failure rate can be attributed to both the new agent and the career agency,. The agent should not have applied for the position, and the recruiter should not have hired him. This half of new recruits are “order takers”, they can complete a sales application form, but this is a far distance from direct selling at a client’s office or home .The rest of the time, I would put blame almost entirely on the career agency system.

This next part is very disturbing. Almost all the career life insurance agencies use a similar plan with recruiting agents and handling them during their rookie years. How can any agent succeed with the statistics stacked so high against him, and the agency unwilling to take blame or make changes?

Look closer at the hiring system. Career agencies hire new agents two ways. The first is a good size ad in the local Sunday newspaper promising lots of income and plenty of benefits. The other is a recruiter hired by the career agency to attend job fairs and similar events to talk to college seniors. Chances are the college recruiter may have never sold a single insurance policy. When the career agency runs the newspaper classified ad, the sales manager is the guilty one. He not properly trained in the art of determining beforehand if he is hiring a true salesperson.

How you were snagged into answering a life insurance opportunity if relatively unimportant. Your all important route to riches is probably a pipe dream. Does it really hurt the insurance company if you fail? You can get my opinion and analysis in an upcoming report that really lays out the details! A hint for you. For current new insurance salespeople give yourself a checkup today. Sit down and take a hard look at the progress of your sales production and where you expected it to be. Next, grab the next issue of the Sunday newspaper, and flip right to the jobs classified selection.

Start fresh in a new career. 1 to 4 years from now check back with your former agent companions. Measure your happiness, at finally seeing a rainbow.

Of course, it’s impossible to put everything about an insurance sales agent into just one article. But you can’t deny that you’ve just added to your understanding about an insurance sales agent, and that’s time well spent.

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985, or COBRA, allows unemployed workers to keep their health insurance from their previous employer for up to 18 months.

Up until the 15-month subsidy was approved last year as part of the federal economic stimulus bill, laid-off workers were required to pick up the full premium. With the subsidy, the unemployed paid 35 percent of the cost.

That subsidy is now at risk while the U.S. Senate considers whether to extend it. It was eliminated from one jobs bill but is included in a second jobs bill. The Senate, however, has not decided which bill it plans to hear, said Cheryl Fish-Parcham, director of health-care policy for Families USA.

If the subsidy is allowed to expire, no one laid off after Feb. 28 will be eligible for the reduced premiums.

That could mean many won’t be able to afford the premiums and would join the growing rolls of the uninsured, according to Families USA, a national organization for health care consumers.

Throwing a lifeline

The federal subsidy “gives people a small margin of hope,” said Terra Eyl, a career transition specialist with the Larimer County Workforce Center in Fort Collins.

Without the subsidy, COBRA premiums can cost upwards of $1,000 a month making it unaffordable for most families trying to live on unemployment benefits.
Even with the subsidy, COBRA payments can be unaffordable for people, particularly those with lower incomes, Eyl said. “But a small margin of hope is better than no margin, in my opinion.”

Families USA estimates an additional 57,500 Coloradans became uninsured last year when they lost their jobs. And, although economic recovery appears to be under way, economists agree job growth is still a long way off, meaning the unemployment rate is likely to rise this year.

One quarter of Larimer County residents between 18 and 65 were uninsured at some point from 2005 through the end of 2007, according to Health District of Northern Larimer County, the latest statistics available.

If President Barack Obama gets his trillion dollar health care bill passed this week by the Democrats in Congress, parents will be required to pay for their unmarried kids’ health care coverage until the age of 26. And Generation Y and ‘millenials’ will be enticed to continue slacking, without a job, well past college graduation. While ski bums everywhere are cheering the news that the federal government will be forcing parents to pay for their health insurance through age 26, parents are questioning why the federal government is enticing a whole generation to stay unemployed.

America has always been a place where hard work is rewarded regardless of one’s age, family status or educational background. If you have an idea you are committed to and make sacrifices to further the idea, you can be wildly successful in our capitalistic system. In America, you can launch a multi-billion dollar computer company from your garage, you can grow up homeless and make it Harvard and you can create a world-wide social networking movement while still in college. But you can also be a slacker if you have the means to slack. Spending a year skiing, hanging out on the beach and surfing or traveling the world are options for the few lucky ones who have parents wealthy enough to pay for such endeavors.

But should the U.S. government encourage college kids to become slackers? Does Generation Y need any more encouragement to feel entitled? And should society guarantee a 5 year hiatus from responsibility after college graduation for millions of college kids? While it is true that many college graduates today will be self-motivated to find a career, make their own money and contribute to society, Generation Y has been the most entitled generation in history. Should the American taxpayer tempt these kids further into believing that the American dream is easy to fulfill?

Obama’s health care bill is being celebrated on the slopes of Colorado and the surf shacks of California but is a dangerous precedent for future generations. Here is the exact wording:

SEC. 2714. EXTENSION OF DEPENDENT COVERAGE.

(a) In General – A group health plan and a health insurance issuer offering group or individual health insurance coverage that provides dependent coverage of children shall continue to make such coverage available for an adult child (who is not married) until the child turns 26 years of age.

One could understand extending another entitlement program through age 26 in countries where the average work week is 30 hours per week and vacation time is guaranteed at 8-10 weeks per year. But is this new proposal anti-American? We aren’t supposed to reward people who don’t work hard and make sacrifices to get ahead. And we aren’t supposed to guarantee anything in America but a fair shot. America is a place where you prove your commitment to your family and your community through hard work and sacrifice. It is this ethic that we call American values.

But the American free-market system is under intense assault from President Obama and his partners in the overwhelmingly Democratic Congress. Obama has proposed massive new programs to give money, guaranteed jobs and entitlements to millions of Americans. In 2008, 36% of Americans paid no taxes. Think about the fact that more than 1/3 of our neighbors paid zero taxes. Did you pay any taxes last year? If you were part of the working group that paid for the slackers, do you really think they need another entitlement program that you will have to pay for?

Why Agents Should Consider Purchasing Final Expense Insurance Leads Have you been thinking about what advantages purchasing final expense leads would bring to your insurance business? You might be surprised to learn about all of the benefits that setting up an account with a quality lead generation company can offer you and your insurance business. This depends on a couple of different things though; what your workload is like and how you would like to make the insurance sale.

In general most insurance agents don’t know the benefits of working with a quality online final expense lead provider and need to see why purchasing insurance leads might be an important addition to their business. Here are three reasons why buying leads is important.

1. When you buy final expense insurance leads you need to be getting a guaranteed return on your investment. This in no way means that you will definitely sell a policy, but you should get the chance to talk to a potential prospect who is genuinely interested. This is more of a guarantee than you get when you invest your money in other forms of advertising.

2. You know that each final expense lead you purchase has been verified as a potential buyer when you get your leads from a reputable lead generation company. This is important because you do not want any leads you buy to be old or falsified information. If the leads you receive are not quality, then you are paying for something that is not going to do much for you or your business.

3. By purchasing leads you do not need to worry about finding them anymore. How much easier and more productive would your day be if you could cut out cold calling completely? Just think of how much more work you can accomplish. When you purchase quality final expense insurance leads you are spending your time on the phone with potential clients and not with people who are going to hang up on you because they are “not in the market”.

These are three very good reasons to purchase your insurance leads. Sign up with an established and reputable lead generation company today if you feel that you could be getting more out of your career as an agent by purchasing online final expense leads.

When we hear the word cheap, we often associate it with “low” or inferior quality. Yet it doesn’t have to always be the case. Here, we will help you find the best auto insurance that suit will your needs as well as your budget.

The best way for you to make sure that you’re getting the best rate possible is to shop around and get several quotes. Ask around. Getting a reference from someone might be the answer to what you are looking for.

Risk is one key element that insurance companies use to determine the rates that they give. Risk which means the possibility of you and your car being involved in an accident. There are certain age groups and other categories that often receive lower rates. People who are twenty-five or over, especially married men, younger drivers who have successfully passed their driver’s ed course and people with respective careers like lawyers, professors and engineers. Students that perform well in school can also get lower insurance rates.

Online shopping is also a great source to ensure you get the best rates available without ever sacrificing quality. You can get several quotes at a time by applying online. Some even list more than one car insurance company on their site for a quick reference. Also, make sure you have an idea of what risk range you belong to. Of course, you don’t expect an excellent rate if you are 19, male and drive around a Jaguar. That would be unrealistic. On the other hand, however, being married with children and driving a family car should give you a far better offer than the former.

When you do shop around, make sure that you compare the same kind. Like and like. Apple for apple. Ask around how claims are processed, approved and paid.Getting involved in a certain group or organization can give you a discounted rate. Many companies offer a discount on car insurance for being a member of certain organizations. They can range from credit unions, college fraternities/sororities or by just having a certain credit card. Most insurance companies also give discounts if you carry your auto and home or renter’s policy with the same company. This is what they call “bundling”. The discount can be anywhere from 5% to 20%.

The area where you live in also plays a major role as to how much an insurance company would charge you. People who always use their car during rush hour in highly populated areas are more at risk than those drivers in the countryside of getting involved in an accident. Also, another way to have lower insurance rates is to own and drive a car that has the highest manufacturer’s safety rating.

Like every major purchase, car insurance needs to be properly researched and make sure that you get several quotes from different sources possible before you make that final step.

If you have a 10-year–old car, that’s worth a $1000, and your deductible is $1000, the coverage is not going to help you. You may want to think about dropping the collision or comprehensive coverage, or both, on your policy. This is one of the best ways of getting cheap auto insurance.Yetlittle do they know that the higher your collision and comprehensive deductibles, the lower you auto insurance premium. You can save hundreds of dollars off your insurance premium if you increase your deductible amount, to say, example, from $250 to $1,000.

Having cheap car insurance should not mean little or no insurance at all. When you file a claim, the deductible is the amount that you need to pay first before the insurance pays any remaining balance. Most of the time, people choose to pay a lower deductible, so when they submit a claim, their out-of-pocket expenses are minimal.

The reason why we all need insurance is simple. It’s for our own protection. Some people would say they won’t use it anyway, so why pay for something that you wouldn’t use? It’s going to be a waste of money.

Until something unexpected happens that’s the time you’d realize that you do need insurance. It’s too late. Damage has been done. What’s worse is, your out of pocket would be so big that it would ruin your budget more so, might wipe up your entire savings. For that reason alone, you might want to continue reading as to why you would need Prepaid Insurance and what benefits will you get out of it.

If you haven’t heard of prepaid insurance before, it’s very similar to having regular insurance. The main difference, as many would agree is the amount that a member pays to be covered. A prepaid legal insurance service plan provides consumers with some legal services at no cost, some on reduced rates by just paying the monthly premium, membership fee or other add on charges. When you avail of prepaid legal insurance service, you get to have access to a wide range of legal services at set costs.

Prepaid legal insurance generally provide free unlimited phone consultations, document or will reviews and reasonable discounts on legal services, written fee agreements and grievance procedures. There are thousands of prepaid legal companies offering several types of plans, which offer different amounts of legal services at adjustable costs, to be able to meet a specific income need.

Prepaid legal service insurance is a very good alternative to hiring a lawyer for many people or companies. If we were to avail of this prepaid legal insurance, what do we get out of it? Here are some of the benefits of having prepaid legal insurance. It is cost effective, simple, and pre-empts the law.

Because most lawyers’ fees except pro-bono are too expensive for most people, prepaid legal insurance service can take the burden out of hiring a lawyer. Lawyers’ fees are most of the time too expensive for most people. Your bill can run into thousands of dollars and this is simply not affordable for most common working and middle class families. Having prepaid legal insurance plans, it’s similar to paying your health or home insurance. It can start as low as $9 per month and won’t exceed the $30 benchmark.

There are a lot of fees very complicated to the common ear that lawyers charge. Contingency fees, statutory fees, flat fees and hourly rates make up what the lawyers usually charge you with. You have to get into the sophisticated details on how these fees are computed, like for example, how much is lawyer’s commission on contingency fees? How about their regulatory nature? Who regulates the statutory fees and how do you know that these fees are in line with regulatory guidelines?

There are other types of fees that can be as confusing as the two mentioned earlier. Lawyers would tend to incorporate all the overheads they incur, like secretary’s salaries, parking expenses and other travel fees into their flat and hourly rates. They would also set a minimum number of billing units, like three tenths of an hour or 18 minutes, regardless of how long they will be able to solve your problem. This is just an example of what influences the lawyers as they charge various fees.

They also consider different factors and other ar [removed][removed] rangements that apply. On the other hand, prepaid legal insurance service is much more straightforward and simple. You will sign an agreement to pay a fixed monthly fee or premium and that’s it. If the service that you need is not covered under the list of services, just like ordering ala carte from the menu, you get to pay a little extra for that particular service. Provided you will be given a separate billing so that you know exactly how much you will be charged.

Prepaid legal insurance service offers unlimited phone consultation and advice. The purpose of this service is to save you money, time and trouble in the future. Most legal problems that you face daily can be solved if you take the right steps in line with the law. With the sound advice and consultation with your lawyer, you can expose legal blunders before they even occur and would minimize the risk of court prosecution or proceedings.

There’s some companies that offer prepaid legal insurance as part of their fringe benefits to their employees. This is called pre-paid group insurance. It is a low cost service and easily administered and has a high perceived value for the employees. The first benefit employers will expect from prepaid legal insurance plans is efficiency and increase in production. Most employees today are interested in a variety of benefits to balance their work with their lifestyle.

Given that most American household had issues with the law might have led them to hire a lawyer, then it’s only normal that a legal benefit would increase the employees’ morale and work efficiency. Because of this benefit, employers can retain the best employees and hire better ones. In these times, most employment candidates base their career choices on the set of benefit package provided by the employers.

Cost containment is also considered as a benefit. With less time and money to be used for personal matters, the company expects to make significant savings on administrative costs.

On a nutshell, having prepaid legal insurance plans look like an excellent solution to face the majority of your company’s legal concerns.
