I don’t know which country you live in, but Athabasca University in Canada offers a very well recognized distance undergraduate degree in education. It is a very good university.
I hope you can’t do it all on-line, because you need classroom experience as a student teacher. It is possible that somewhere there is an on-line degree mill that will let you have a BA in education, but if you want to do any kind of real-life teaching, and not just have the degree, you need to see what it’s like up close and personal in a classroom.
A great online school is Bellevue University at http://www.bellevue.edu
But, they don’t offer an education degree. Plenty of other great degrees though. Good luck!
Okay, you modified it after I started this. Now my answer is modified.
If you are already teaching, the answer is different. You can arrange credit for the practicum with most state colleges. You probably can do everything online after some negotiations with your state college with your background.
You are aware that most states now require a masters degree within 5 years of getting your licence? Its a pain. I’m working on my teaching licence too, but I have a degree. I need the other parts.
In our area, you must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and complete the pre-student and student teaching requirements before you can be hired as a public school teacher. Substitutes, however, are only required to have 90 credit hours in any subject to teach. In the United States, each state has their own requirements for teacher education, so it is possible that is why there aren’t any on line courses to earn your bachelor’s degree. Check with the school district you work for, they may have some resources. If you live in the US, check with your state education board, they also may be able to guide you to accredited on line colleges offering the degree you seek. My teacher training was over 20 years ago, but there were so many required classes that included hands on learning, that it seems an on line course may not be feasible.
I understand how difficult it is to earn a degree while working and raising a family. Back in the 1980′s (no home computers back then), I had a 2 1/2 year old and a 7 month old, taught in a private kindergarten plus worked a retail job while earning my teaching degree. I look back and wonder how the heck I did it, but sometimes you do what you have to do in order to get what you want.
Check out http://www.universitydegreefinder.com. They should be able to help.
No matter where you decide to go you have to log a certain number of classroom hours in order to get your bachelors degree.
You need to attend a “real” college or university. If you expect to be able to teach live students, you need to be one yourself in front of a live professor. Get off the puter and into the real world!
Actually, Athabasca University does not offer a Bachelor of Education at this point, however, does offer a number of programs in distance education.
