What Is The Reputation Of University Of Phoenix’s Online Degree Program W/ Job Recruiters?

I have decided to pursue my Masters degree in Marketing online, due to time and money constraints. I know University of Phoenix is well-established re: its online education program. However, does it have any real credibility w/ recruiters and placement/HR offices?
It is definitely more economical and technologically advanced than the online programs of established colleges and universities.
But is it worth it? Are there any traditional colleges of which anyone is aware that offer good online programs at a reasonable cost? Thanks very much.

  • Yes,there are many better choices than UoP. If you are interested I would advise you to visit Degree Discussion (http://www.degreediscussion.com/forums/) there are lots of people there who can help you. There is a lot of bad things being said about UoP and the way it operates. There are cheaper and more reasonable Online Marketing programs.
    For example :
    Baker College (http://www.bakercollegeonline.com/index.…
    Regis University
    (http://www.mbaregis.com/degrees_mbamktg.…
    University of North Alabama
    (http://www2.una.edu/business/mba/index.h…
    or
    (http://www.columbiasouthern.edu/UNA/prog…
There are plenty more..that are at least as “affordable” as UoP, One thing to make sure is that all Colleges and Universities you consider are Regionally Accredited (if In the USA). You may or may not choose to go for Professional Accreditation(AACSB) but that is more about choice then acceptability(please note the only Professionally Accredited school I listed was the University of North Alabama and they are not accredited by AACSB by the lesser known ACBSP.) I would really recommend the Degree Discussion message board, a lot of people who have vast distance learning(DL) experience.

I would regard online universities as the absolute last resort for someone seeking higher education.
The quality of education these programs offer is minimal – there is simply no substitute for the kind of dynamic interactions and discussions that commonly occur in face-to-face college courses. Also, the quality of educator is significantly less at online universities – the best faculty choose to teach at real colleges and universities. Both the pay and work environments are far superior to online universities. So, for great classes from great instructors, go to a real college or university.
Also, because of the minimal training they offer, employers and graduate institutions place little value in degrees earned from online programs. Many of these programs lack even basic accreditation for the degree programs they offer.
Bottom line – you will receive little if any personal or professional benefit from online universities relative to what you could have received from a real college or university.

I have attended college courses in both the classroom and online environments. As with any endeavor, what you gain will be in direct proportion to the effort you invest.

I earned a B.S. in Marketing from the University of Phoenix. The university is accredited, meeting my employer’s (a Fortune 100 company) criteria for tuition reimbursement. I think you will find that the university is respected by many employers, especially in this day and age when the ability to communicate effectively in the virtual world is a key to success.

I had the opportunity to interact with classmates from around the world. Most of the students in my classes were working in the marketing field, (some in Fortune 500 companies), which gave us the ability to share ideas and brainstorm solutions to actual workplace situations. We not only communicated using e-mail, but sometimes held conference calls to discuss team projects. I even developed a few virtual relationships with fellow students and we would call each other to discuss assignments.

If you are comfortable using technology to communicate with others; and are self-motivated and disciplined to study at home; and have strong writing skills, you will find the online experience quite rewarding.

I agree with the above comment. I too graduated at the Univeristy of Phoenix and have been very successful at what I do. A do admit, the UOP is not for everyone. I am in the IT field and already had experience prior to attending. The UOP provided an environment very similar to what we see on a day to day basis. They provide situations and scenarios that are occurr in any business. I found their model very effective because it promotes interaction and communication to accomplish a task. The instructors had tons of experience (most were executives for reputable companies) and very impressive credentials.
