Don’t put one. The usually make people look like dumb asses. A good cover letter should make it clear why you think you would be an asset to the company (and that’s a little insight into what you are about) after that you can talk about objectives during an interview. Could you really put a true objective into one line?? I’ve seen so many “To secure employment with a good company” that it means nothing.
Honestly, when someone includes a career objective on a resume I’m reading, half the time I just roll my eyes because people write the dumbest things. Be honest. If your’e looking for a job you can move up in quickly, include the term “advancement opportunities.” If you want to be in a company on the cutting edge, include the term “at the forefront of the business” or “fast growing.” If you want to be challenged, say so. But if you really don’t want to be challenged, don’t say that. Also, this may not work for an online resume, but make sure you know the company you are applying to. I work at an animal shelter and I just groan when people write that they want to be in a fast growing business. We’re in animal sheltering, not biotechnology! How fast can we possibly grow?
