What would be a good health career to start off with until fully finished with school?

I plan on going to school for 8 years to become a radiologist. But I can’t figure out what I want to do until I finish all that school. I’ve tried to find a radio tech class, but they are all full time day classes. But then I won’t be able to work a full time day job at the same time. I thought about EMT-paramedics but not sure on that because of my harsh driving record. I would like to start on something that will allow me to get some pre-med classes outta the way and of course something I can kinda support my family on but its kind of difficult. I have my mind set on the radiology part but cant find anything that is in the same field that complies with a working persons schedule. And I know I can get a night job and go to school during the day, but I have a 1 year old son that I don’t wanna miss out on. I know later I will have to, especially when i have to go to med school. But hopefully by then I’ll have a job in a hospital working nights rather than in a warehouse or something.

I worked in healthcare for 13 years and it is a great career field as it offers so much opportunity and variety.

It also is a 24 hour environment and you should be able to find something that fits with your schedule.

You could work as a Radiology Tech, Surgical Tech, or Sterile Services Tech. There are so many jobs that you could do that will help you understand the business and culture of healthcare, provide you an income, and give you time to work through school. You may also meet a physician or two that can help you with school

Look for a teaching or university medical center in your area.
