It all depends on what industry you are planning on working. In most cases, yes. I speak English, German, and Swedish. I am currently looking at two new jobs in customer service. I have two friends, who majored in Spanish. Just because we speak a second language (or more) our hourly rates for jobs are higher than those who do not speak a second language. In most cases you will find that you are offered a higher wage, even if you don’t use your language. If you are planning a job with a Government agency, the rate in pay is noticeable. If you are proficient enough in any of the languages, you can also do work on the side for Government agencies. One of my friends works on contract with the courts. He is paid $50 per hour to translate for the courts. Hope this helps.
Yes, indeed, if you intend to go into a business that trades internationally. If you aren’t, you’re possibly using valuable job seeking time avoiding the issue.
yes it can help in a variety of jobs should be able to get higher pay at the right places for this ability!
Spanish and French. If you learn Italian too, they are all romance languages so they should be easy to pick up.
Good for you! The doors that will open when you walk in are numerous, and it sounds like you are a smart person. There are so many different jobs that you will be able to do… the sky is your limit!
Absolutely. It’s much easier to work abroad if you can speak different languages.
It sounds like you have an excellent start. My aunt has an Masters degree in linguistics and worked for the CIA for awhile. You may want to consider any Arabic language, there is a great need for translators right now in that area.
Any language could possibly be of benefit in the long run – of course it depends partly on your career choice?
But in general Spanish would definitely be my first choice, simply because it is spoken in so many countries. After that the other European languages may also be easier to pick up.
yes, it’s definitely an advantage!
learn spanish, as it’s more widely spoken throughout the world than japanese and italian.
depends what type of career you are taking – if you plan on working with deaf people then it won’t help
